Details Regarding New Huawei Kirin 9000SL Emerges

Huawei is gearing up to reveal its highly anticipated Nova 12 series on December 26. According to the information we’ve got so far, there will be three smartphones in the lineup. Among them, the Nova 12 Ultra will be the highest-end offering featuring the Huawei Kirin 9000SL SoC.

Previously, we had information about the Kirin 800 come out. It will be powering the Nova 12 Pro, the mid-tier smartphone of the lineup. With this, the entire range will be offering two brand new Huawei SoCs: Kirin 9000SL and 8000.

Comparing Huawei Kirin 9000SL With 9000S

The Kirin 9000SL appears to be a downgraded version of the Kirin 9000S. As you can see from the picture attached below, the Kirin 9000SL has a ‘2 + 3 + 4’ CPU cluster, offering a total of 9 cores. The fastest core runs at 2.35GHz, which is lower than the Kirin 9000S. But it is compensated by the additional cores.

Compared to the Kirin 9000S’s ‘1 + 3 + 4’ CPU cluster, the Kirin 9000SL’s increased core count hints at superior multi-core performance. So, despite the lower clock speed, the Kirin 9000SL’s dual-core design at 2.35GHz can provide competitive performance, especially in resource-intensive tasks.

More Details on the New Chipset

The Kirin 9000SL’s architecture, with its 6 cores and 9 threads, includes a 1×2.35GHz Taishan core, 2×2.15GHz Taishan cores, and 3×1.53GHz Cortex-A510 cores. What remains consistent with its counterpart, the Kirin 9000S, is the Maleoon 910 GPU clocked at 750MHz.

While the large core of the Kirin 9000SL SoC runs 0.27 GHz slower than the Kirin 9000S, the nuanced differences in architecture contribute to a unique performance profile. The dual-core design and increased core count suggest that the Kirin 9000SL may outshine the Kirin 9000S in multi-core scenarios.

The Nova 12 Series So Far

Huawei Nova 12 series lineup looks something like this:

  • Kirin 9000SL on Nova 12 Ultra
  • Kirin 8000 on Nova 12 Pro
  • Snapdragon 778G on Nova 12 Youth Edition

With this, the smartphone series aims to offer a diverse range of options to cater to various user preferences. Also, through this smartphone series, it has become more apparent that Huawei doesn’t want the current US sanctions to limit its progress. We will keep you updated when more information comes up.
